Mets pick up Delgado's option for '09
In the NY Post, The Mets followed through on the recent promise by GM Omar Minaya to pick up their $12 million option on the final year of first baseman Carlos Delgado Carlos Delgado 's contract.
Delgado, 36, is coming off a roller-coaster season that saw him get off to a terrible start before suddenly (and suspiciously) emerging as the Mets' MVP almost the instant that Willie Randolph was replaced by Jerry Manuel.
Delgado ended up hitting .271 with a team-high 38 homers and 115 RBIs. The Mets, who still might trade the slugger this off-season, had until five days after the World Series to pick up the option or Delgado would have become a free agent.
