Sorry Yankee Fans - Peavy wants to stay in the NL !
In a article in the Union Tribune, Jake Peavy's agent Barry Axelrod gave his take on where Peavy would prefer to be traded, if traded.....
“Jake has a strong preference to stay in the National League,” Axelrod said. “It is hypothetical, but Jake, by any measure, has had a great deal of success in the National League. He has a comfort level with knowing how to approach hitters here.”
Peavy also considers his hitting ability a advantage in the National league because he is good hitting pitcher. Peavy batted .266 this year.
Axelrod made one concrete stipulation to any trade scenarios:
“Jake would only approve a trade to a team with a solid chance of winning and a winning tradition. Those teams in the National League may be in locations that are more acceptable, or would be.”
He said “the ability or opportunity to win is very important to Jake, and hopefully some sort of coincidence with his and his family's lifestyle.”
Among the cities Axelrod mentioned were Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles and St. Louis.
Peavy does not really want to move from San Diego because he has wife and 4 kids and does not want to move them all around.
“My first choice is to be in San Diego, with a team that is going to do everything they can do to be a postseason team and try to win a World Series,” said Peavy, who received full no-trade powers as part of the three-year, $52-million extension signed last December.
After seeing the Padres going 63-99, Axelrod knows that if the Padres can fix the team and remain a contender Peavy would be for it. But if the Padres are going to re-building process, it does make sense for the Padres or Jake to be there.
