Braves end pursuit of Peavy and move on....

MLB.com says that Braves general manager Frank Wren has focused all of his attention on acquiring Jake Peavy for past six weeks. But with no indication that he was nearing an agreement with the Padres, he decided it was in his organization's best interest to turn his focus elsewhere in search of starting pitchers.

Wren called Padres general manager Kevin Towers on Thursday and notified him that the Braves would no longer "actively pursue" Peavy if an agreement wasn't reached by the end of the day.

When Friday arrived with no agreement, Wren and his staff turned their attention toward Derek Lowe, A.J. Burnett and some of the other top pitchers available on the free-agent market.

"We've notified the Padres that we're moving on to pursue other opportunities and players," Wren said. "We're no longer actively pursuing Jake Peavy. We have other options out there."

That leaves the door open for the Cubs, Mets, Yankees and whoever else joins in .............

GAME ON.........
