Post Thanksgiving notes to chew on: Sabathia, Peavy, Manny, Burnett...
ESPN's Peter Gammons has some post Thanksgiving notes to chew on:
He says the Yankees will try to outbid everyone for CC Sabathia. The Angels will make their case like they did when they signed Tori Hunter, but it will be hard for Sabathia to turn down the highest bidder because the players union will want the most money for any player.
Gammons says that nobody has been in talks for Jake Peavy but the Braves and Cubs and he wonders why?
The Cubs are looking for a third team to get the Padres the pitching they need plus their 3B prospect, Josh Vitters. The Braves do not want to part with anyone of their five minor league pitching prospects, even their low level guys.
Everyone is wondering how Scott Boras can ask for more than 2 years on Manny Ramirez.
The answer according to Gammons, is that he has gone under intense training at Athletics Performance Institute. Gammons claims that he is better shape now than when he signed with the Red Sox.
"The work Manny did for his core and his agility completely changed him," says former North Carolina coach Mike Roberts, who oversees much of the baseball-related operations for API. "It is amazing what he's done for his body."
One of Manny's best baseball friends says he believes he will stay focused, especially if he could get to a place like Anaheim. "Right now he's really obsessed with 600 homers (Ramirez has 527), and when he gets to 600, he may get obsessed with 700."
Gammons says that you won't see A.J. Burnett signed from anyone until CC does.
