PREGAME: Mets @ Marlins

The New York Mets travel (6-8) travel to Jupiter today to face the Florida Marlins (6-7) in Grapefruit League play. John Maine (0-0, 10.80) will be the starting pitcher for the Mets, and will take the mound at 1:05 p.m. eastern.

Here's how the lineup looks for New York:

Cory Sullivan, cf
Luis Castillo, 2b
Ryan Church, rf
Fernando Tatis, 3b
Bobby Kielty, lf
Marlon Anderson, 1b
Brian Schneider, c
Ruben Tejada, ss
John Maine, sp

Some notable spring stats so far:

Cory Sullivan- .313 avg, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 8 runs, 32 AB
Bobby Kielty- .292 avg, 1 HR, 8 RBI, 3 runs, 24 AB
Luis Castillo- .318 avg, .500 OBP, 6 RBI, 7 runs, 22 AB
Marlon Anderson- .400 avg, 3 RBI, 1 run, 20 AB
Jeremy Reed- .324 avg, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 7 runs, 34 AB
Daniel Murphy- .366 avg, .426 OBP, 6 RBI, 6 runs, 41 AB (T-2nd most in MLB)

Clearly it has been a good spring for some unlikely players, and the battle for the final spot on the bench is heating up as April approaches. The resurgence of Marlon Anderson and Luis Castillo are good signs, and Daniel Murphy has picked up right where he left off in 2008.

That being said, it's only spring training.

Continue to keep an eye on guys like Sullivan, Kielty, Reed, and Anderson, since they are all likely bench candidates.

Today's game is not broadcast on either SNY or MLB.TV, but MLB.com should have a live box score you can follow. The bad thing is, it's scheduled at the same time as the ACC Championship game...

As always, Let's Go Mets!
