Who Should The Mets Send To The Pen When Perez and Maine Are Back?

The Mets have seen much of the DL this year, and it has been very hard to watch. watching Met by Met go to the DL is not easy for any Mets fan to watch, and watching the Mets pay for it was even harder.

But we have heard good news about some guys that may come back soon, and it may bring a bit of a dilemma to the Mets and Jerry Manuel.

Both Oliver Perez and John Maine are looking like they may come back very soon, great news for the Mets and very bad news for the Phillies who did not gain ground on the Mets when they were missing the two starters, and now will need to pay the price.

But what should the Mets do? Who should the Mets put as a starter and who in the bullpen?

Well, we know who will still be a starter at the end of this. Mets ace Santana will be a starter, we all agree on that.

Mike Pelfrey should be Ok, other then Johan Santana hw has been the best Mets starter this season. I think it iis safe to say his job is safe.

Frome here it starts getting hard, who should go to the bullpen?

We have five guys going after three spaces, and there are some much thinking that will need to be done for us to pick the right guys.

The Mets competing for the spots in the rotation are: Perez, Maine, Hernandez, Redding and Nieve.

Lets start with Perez and what I where I think he should go.

With all the respect I have for Perez's left arm (mot much), I think he should go to the Bullpen. Many people say that because he is making lots off money you can put him in the bullpen, but why?

Perez is the worst pitcher with a chance to win the 5th spot, and I think that he is a very bad starter. I do not know if he would be good in the bullpen gor the Mets, but there is only one way to find put.

Jerry has been known to make guy's win there spots on the Mets, I hope he does not stop with Perez.

What about Livan, where should he go?

Livan has been great for the Mets this season, he is 5-3 and has helped the Mets win lots of games. His ERA is 4.04, one of the best on the Mets. There is on big reason to go with Livan, and that is because he is a work horse.

He is one of thous guys that gives you innings, he has 2644.2 career IP and this year he is very close to 100 IP.

So that is way I think Livan should be a starter.

And here is why John Maine Should Join Livan in the rotation.

He is a good pitcher, and that is hard to find on the Mets other then Big-Pelf and Johan Santana.

Since coming to the Mets he has been very good. In the last two seasons he is 30-22, with a ERA under four.

What should Fernando Nieve be?

I think he should be in the rotation, he is 3-0 on the season and has a ERA of 1.31. he has come to the Mets in the right time. He has been the best starter on the Mets since his first start of the season against the Yankees in Yankee stadium.

Do not get me wrong, I do not think he will be the next Johan Santana. But I think that one of Jerry's tricks that Works a lot is going with the hot hand. And Nieve is the hot hand for now, Until he is done I think the Mets should keep him in the rotation.

And who knows, maybe he will end up a big Mets star.

That leaves Tim Redding with one spot, in the bullpen.

Why Tim in the bullpen? because there is no room in the rotation. But that is Ok, we need guys in the bullpen now that J.J Putz is on the DL.

I am not saying he has been good this season, he is 1-3 with a 6.35 ERA. But he is better this season then Perez, and the bullpen does need help.

And I think the bullpen can help him, I think he can become a better pitcher for the Mets when he does not need to go six innings in a row.

So this should be the Mets starting rotation when Perez and Maine co,e back.

1. Johan Santana

2. Mike Pelfrey

3. John Maine

4. Livan Hernandez

5. Fernando Nieve

And the bullpen, at least until J.J Putz comes back.

RP: Sean Green

RP:Brian Stokes

RP: Bobby Parnell

RP: Pedro Feliciano

RP: Tim Redding

SU: Oliver Perez

CL: Francisco Rodriguez

It may not be the best, but it is better then the Phillies.

I know what some of you are thinking. We cant trust Perez to get out of the first inning when he starts, how can we trust him in the 8th?

Well, there is no good answer, the man can be the best or the worst. He can be in the middle, so we as Mets fans cant do more then hope he is the best.

I hope you enjoyed this article, I would love to know what you think about it.

Good luck to the Mets, they are going to need it.
